The 2-step advanced filtration system includes activated carbon that reduces chlorine, and ion exchange resin that reduces calcium. This system removes up to 97% of chlorine from the water. To install, simply open and close the hatch to insert the cartridge into the holder, then place the holder in the designated slot in the back of the water reservoir. Remember to remove the holder and cartridge when cleaning the coffeemaker.

Cartridges should be replaced once a month, and a dial on the water filter holder can be set as a reminder. Additional cartridge holders are sold separately. These water filtration cartridges are designed for the Mr. Coffee Easy Measure 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker and the Mr. Coffee 12-Cup Programmable with Dishwashable Design (coffee makers and cartridge holder sold separately).

Some customers have reported that the cartridge appears "not full of activated carbon," "insufficient," or "loosely packed." However, the XCIVI team assures that the cartridges are fully filled with activated carbon and ion exchange resin during production. The resin particles, which are essential for the 2-step filtration system, can shrink when stored in a dry warehouse, making the cartridge appear loose and not full. In actual use, the resin will absorb water and recover within 1-2 hours. So users need not worry about this.
